Scope and Contents
From the Series:
From the earliest 1968 draft of a College Senate to Senate Handbooks in the 1990's, this series documents changes in the goals and governance of the Senate. The earliest constituion differs markedly from the current version. Membership was limited to seven top level managers and faculty were represented by rank, 20% of full professors, 10% assoicate and 5% assistant. Only faculty with three years of service could vote. The president of the college served as Chairman of the Senate. Matters undertaken for consideration included most matters of the university's operation. Some of the notable concerns that are no longer under senate review include; promotion, faculty welfare, concerts and lectures, athletics, alumni, academic calendar and publicity. With senate committees addressing each of these, some related documentation should be contained in the record group. The earliest documents contain much the same information as latter senate handbooks. This includes the composition of the senate, the charges and members of the various committees and role and functions of the senate.
