Scope and Contents

This is a collection of some of the research materials Russell Vance used for writing his book, A Portrait of Edinboro, From Private Academy to State College, 1856-1976. Published in 1977, this book is the standard history of the school. In this collection is an eclectic group of papers, nearly all of which are related to the school's history. Contained in this collection are some papers of Margaret Compton. These are mostly notes for class lectures, but there are a few pieces of coorespondences. There is also a small collection of photocopies of newspapers. One of these is the Educational Independent, a paper edited by former school principal Joseph Cooper.
