From the Series: This series contains the Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS). This survey was created in 1966 due to the influences of the administrators and policy-makers. The U.S Office of Education, Pennsylvania Department of Education, other agencies at the federal and state level, and institutions and associations of higher education and private organizations and foundations uses this survey to collect data for administrative and analytical purposes. Within the series, there are directions and revisions to the HEGIS between 1972 to 1985. The 1972-73 HEGIS removed the following surveys from the report: Adult/Continuing Education Activities and the Residence and Migration of College Students. In the 1973-74 year, HEGIS was composed of the following sub-surveys: Institutional Characteristics, Degrees and other Formal Awards Conferred, Summer School Enrollment Report, Financial Statistics of Institutions of Higher Education, Opening Fall Enrollment, Supplemental Enrollment Data, Comprehensive Staff Report, Library Reports, Students Enrolled for Advanced Degrees, NEA Teacher Supply and Demand, and Report on Veterans Education. Also, the series included supplemental reports on the following: Degrees and other Formal Awards, Opening Fall Enrollment, Comprehensive Staff Report, Students Enrolled for Advanced Degrees, Supplemental Enrollment Data, and Survey of Student Financial Aid. There are revisions to the HEGIS from 1975 to 1984 included in the series. For each of these years, the HEGIS sent out a letter to the administrations of universities regarding the forms/surveys included from the year’s HEGIS. Also, there are schedules of reporting dates for the specific surveys. In 1975, the HEGIS included: Institutional Characteristics; Degrees and other Formal Awards Conferred; Supplement to Degrees and other Formal Awards Conferred; Report on Veterans Education Degree Graduates; Summer School Enrollment Report; A Survey of Field Experience Programs; College and University Libraries; Opening Fall Enrollment in Higher Education; Financial Statistics; Comprehensive Staff Report; Salaries, Tenure, Fringe Benefits of Full-instructional Faculty; Supplement Enrollment Data; Residence and Migration of College Students; Data on Veterans Education; Upper- Division Undergraduates and Post-Baccalaureate Enrollment Degree by Field; Supply and Occupations of New Teachers and Winter Enrollment in Higher Education. The 1976 HEGIS revised the Summer School Enrollment Report, A Survey of Field Experience Programs, and College and University Libraries. Additionally, the Supplement Enrollment Data, Salaries, Tenure, Fringe Benefits of Full-instructional Faculty, and Winter Enrollment in Higher Education. There were some omissions and additions to the HEGIS. The omissions included: Supplement to Degrees and other Formal Awards Conferred, Comprehensive Staff Report, Residence and Migration of College Students, and A Survey of Student Financial Aid. The forms added included the following Adult/Continuing Education: Noncredit Activities in Institutions of Higher Education, Fall Enrollment in Higher Education. The 1977 HEGIS did not change. The 1978 HEGIS omitted the following forms: A Survey of Field Experience Programs, College and Universities, and Teacher Supply and Demand Survey- Form I. In the 1979 HEGIS, four forms were omitted and three forms were added. The omitted forms include: Adult/Continuing Education: Noncredit Activities in Institutions of Higher Education, Fall Enrollment in Higher Education, Supplement Enrollment Data, and Winter Enrollment in Higher Education. The forms added include: Teacher Supply and Demand-Form I, College and Libraries, and Residence and Migration of College Students. The 1980 HEGIS omitted the following forms: Report on Degrees Awarded to Veterans, College and University Libraries, Residence and Migration of College Students, and the Report on Veterans Enrolled in Higher Education. In 1981 HEGIS, two forms were omitted and one form was added. The forms omitted were Adult/Continuing Education: Noncredit Activities in Institutions of Higher Education, and Comprehensive Staff Report. The form added to the HEGIS was the Residence and Migration of College Students. The 1982 and 1983 HEGIS added the previous year’s omitted Comprehensive Staff Report as well as College and Libraries. The sole omission was the last year’s addition the Residence and Migration of College Students. The 1984 and 1985 HEGIS omitted two forms. These forms were College and University Libraries and Comprehensive Staff Report. The1984 and 1985 HEGIS added one form named Residence and Migration of College Students.
