Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
Materials in this collection were either created by multiple offices or groups, or were directed at the university community. The largest portion of the collection consists of self-studies. Self-studies are submitted to accrediting bodies or licensing bodies as an application for accreditation or licensure. Edinboro University has fourteen such entities to which it submits. This record group contains reports to three current accreditation bodies and one that is defunct.
The Middle States Accreditation self-studies contain information on the university and its constituent parts. The Middle States Association serves to confer accreditation to the whole university. Early self-studies can be one or two volumes, the newer self-studies are typically multi-volume in length. The MSA documents in this collection range from 1970-2008.
Likewise, NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) self-studies can be quite lengthy. Focused on the School of Education, these self-studies also include the contributions of the rest of the university toward teacher education. This collection contains NCATE materials from 1960-2000.
Prior to NCATE, the AACTE (American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) accredited teacher education programs. The record group contains reports for this group from 1950-1953.
Self-studies submitted to the PDE (Pennsylvania Department of Education) are also a requirement for Edinboro's School of Education. Files for this sub-series range from 1965-1993.
Policies of the university include the policy manuals before they changed to online only. Superceded policies are kept as well. Five year master plans are also included.
Advisement guides are included here as well. They contain guides for each department but are grouped together by the three school extant at that time, School of Education, School of Liberal Arts, and the School of Science, Management and Technology.
The general education series contains an assessment of the program in 1988.
In the subject files series are events and reports that occupy one to two folders. Examples of this are dedications of buildings, anniversary events, and one-time studies.
